THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Uthra murder case convict Sooraj tried for emergency parole by producing a fake medical certificate. On the complaint of Poojapura Central Jail Superintendent Sajeev, Poojapura police registered a case against Sooraj's mother Renuka who produced the medical record. Suraj's father was recorder as 'seriously ill' in the medical certificate seeking emergency parole. Suspicious, the prison authorities enquired with the doctor who issued the certificate. The certificate received by the superintendent was also sent to the doctor. The doctor informed that although he issued the certificate, it did not mention 'serious illness'.

When it became clear that the document was fake, the Superintendent filed a complaint against Suraj with Poojappura police. It is reported that the document was forged by an outsider.

It was Sooraj's mother who presented the certificate. Suraj and his mother will be interrogated. Those who helped in forgery will also be found. The police also suspect that a gang forging documents to get parole is behind this.

Sooraj is serving a jail term in the killing of his wife Uthra by a snakebite inflicted while she was asleep on 7 May 2020. On October 13, 2021, the court sentenced Sooraj to 17 years of imprisonment followed by rigorous imprisonment. Sooraj's application for parole was rejected earlier.
