
THRISSUR: A woman and her lover have been arrested for killing her mother in Mundur. The death of Thankamani (75) of Mundur proved to be a murder. The murder was committed on Saturday. The police have arrested Thankamany’s daughter Sandhya (45) and her lover Nithin (27).
Sandhya first said that her mother died after hitting her head on a millstone (ural). However, the postmortem report mentioned of a murder. Police said that she murdered her mother to steal her ornaments. After killing her, they dumped the body in the field. Thankamany’s neighbour Nithin (Sandhya’s lover) informed police about a body lying in the field.
Another neighbour Priyan suspected murder after her ornaments were found missing from her body. When the body was moved, found marks on her neck and ears. Sandhya is the only daughter of Thankamani. She has a husband and a son. Nithin, who went to Sabarimala after the murder, constantly called Sandhya’s son and enquired whether the police and forensic officials had come or not.
When the police noticed this, Nithin, who returned from Sabarimala, was taken into custody. Nithin did not confess to the crime initially. Meanwhile, Sandhya was taken into custody and questioned. When examined her phone, found details of her constant conversations with Nithin and documents of exchanging the gold and money. When the police presented these evidences, the accused confessed to the crime. Sandhya said that she killed her mother for the gold ornaments and that she killed her by strangling and suffocating her. Sandhya and Nithin stole Thankamani’ earrings and a chain. Sandhya testified that she did this to repay Nithin's debt.
