KOCHI: In a shocking incident, a 26-year-old woman was stabbed by her husband near her workplace after she decided to proceed with a divorce. Chalakudy Meloor native Aswathy (26) was stabbed in Ponnurunni, Ernakulam. She sustained a deep wound to her back, including her spinal cord, and is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Kochi. Police have arrested her husband, Abhijith from Guruvayur, in connection with the attack.

The incident occurred on Monday around 6:30 p.m. near the firm 'Cake House' in Ponnurunni. According to the police, Aswathy and Abhijith had a love marriage and have a daughter. Their relationship got strained after Aswathy learned that Abhijith was involved with other women. She had been living separately from him for the past two years. After taking up a job at the billing section of the cake shop, Aswathy lived in Ponnurunni as a paying guest, while her daughter remained with her grandparents in Chalakudy.

On Monday, Abhijith went to her workplace to demand that she withdraw the divorce and live with him. When Aswathy refused, he became angry and stabbed her. Hearing her screams, nearby locals alerted the police. Aswathy was immediately taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

The accused was arrested by Kadavanthra police, led by SHO Ratheesh, and has been remanded by the court. Abhijith is also an accused in two cannabis-related cases at Guruvayur Police Station.
