‘Exchange fire for half-an-hour, we hid in bathroom with two-year-old’; Anish is still shocked after catching Maoists from house

WAYANAD: The Maoists were trapped by the police after exchanging fire for half an hour. There was a firing between the Maoists and the police at the house of Anish, a resident of Perya Chapparam Colony, last night. A group consisting of three women and a man had reached Anish's house to get food and to charge the mobile phone. Anish said when the Maoists were trying to leave the house, the police surrounded his house.

The Maoists who were inside fired at the police several times. Unnimaya and Chandru were in the kitchen. Chandru and Unnimaya got trapped in the move of the police. The police were able to subdue them easily as their gun suddenly malfunctioned. Two other women escaped into the forest, but one of them was reportedly shot at. It is reported that Sundari and Latha, who belong to Kabaneedalam, ran away.

Anish's two-and-a-half-year-old child, mother, brother and wife were inside the house at the time of the shooting. Anish said that he took shelter in the bathroom. Anish is a taxi driver. Three women came home on Monday and gave a list of the things they needed and then left. When Anish came home after work on Tuesday night at 8:30 pm, four Maoists were there. The firing was at 10.30 pm and this continued for half an hour. Anish said the front door of the house was damaged in the firing.
