KOLLAM: Shailaja is shattered, accepting the reality that her daughter and granddaughter will never make it to her house again.
Shailaja and her family firmly believe that it was the torture from in-laws that led to the suicide of Vipanchika, the Kollam native who ended her life only after murdering her daughter Vaibhavi. They were found dead in their flat in Sharjah on Tuesday night. Vaibhavi, who is one and a half years old, was born in Sharjah. Shailaja last met her granddaughter in person when she came to the Choorunu function (marking a baby's first intake of solid food) in Dubai almost six months back. Vipanchika had even promised to visit her mother in one month, but what reached Shailaja was the horrific news of murder and suicide.
“Never knew that my daughter went through such torture. She might not have disclosed anything to me for fear that I would get hurt. I raised her alone and went through many difficulties. Vipanchika might have never wanted the same to happen to her daughter, so she did the unthinkable.
Nidheesh might have feared Vipanchika telling all the grisly details of the assault if she were to return home in Kerala. That’s why he eliminated them,” said Shailaja.
Vipanchika's relatives filed a complaint with the Foreign Minister, the Indian Consulate in Sharjah, and the Chief Minister, demanding an investigation into the death. Vipanchika's suicide note, written in her handwriting, had come to light, asking that her killers not be spared. In addition to the brutal torture she faced from her husband, the suicide note also contains serious allegations against her father-in-law, Mohanan Valiyaveetil and sister-in-law, Neethu. The bodies are now kept at Sharjah Al Qasimi Hospital. Vaibhavi's postmortem has been completed.
Vipanchika's postmortem has not been conducted as evidence needs to be collected.
