THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress leader K Muraleedharan has responded to the allegations against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil. While talking to the media, Murali said Rahul need not resign his MLA post now and if a complaint is obtained, the party will handle it seriously. Other things can be decided later, he said.

'If a written complaint is obtained, the party will handle the matter seriously. No written complaint has been received yet. As long as there is no written complaint, it is not possible to make an MLA resign. There is no such decision before the party now. The AICC General Secretary had hinted that there is no need to make an MLA resign in the absence of a written complaint,' Muraleedharan said.

After allegations of sexual misconduct were levelled against Rahul Mamkootathil, many stepped forward against him to step down from his MLA post. The party is bigger. The state leadership has received a strict instruction to face the elections with a clean image. After opposition leader V D Satheesan hardened his stance, there are indications that the party is abandoning Rahul. There are reports that Ramesh Chennithala has informed the leadership that Rahul should resign. He clarified that if Rahul continues in the post, it will be detrimental to the party as there is a possibility of further revelations.

Meantime, Speaker A N Shamseer responded that the party should take action against Rahul. Shamseer made this clear while talking to the media this morning.
