THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A man who was under treatment for fever in Balaramapuram has died. The deceased is S.A. Anil Kumar (49) of VS Bhavan, Thalayal, Balaramapuram. Doctors are checking whether the death was due to meningitis (brain fever). The final report is awaited.

Anil first sought treatment after developing a wound on his leg. As the wound failed to heal, detailed examinations revealed an infection. He was initially admitted to private hospitals and later shifted to the super-speciality wing of Thiruvananthapuram Medical College, where he remained in the intensive care unit on ventilator support.

The health department has sent water samples from local water bodies for testing. Two months ago, Anil had gone to Chennai to help his son join a job. No one else in the family has shown symptoms of fever or illness.
