MALAPPURAM: Samastha youth wing have come forward against teaching Zumba dance in schools. The Samastha Kerala Sunni Yuvajana Sangham (SYS) leader Abdussamad Pookkottur said the dance form harms morality. Parents should wake up and think, he said.

The education department launched the dance form to reduce mental stress in schools. The education department had decided to provide Zumba training in schools from this academic year. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had earlier said that Zumba is for the physical and mental enjoyment of children. Children should be refreshed while returning from school. The chief minister explained that if they do so, drug gangs and others will not be able to influence them. The programme was launched by conducting a mega Zumba last month.

Teachers were trained to teach Zumba to children in schools. The chief minister had earlier said that this is the first step in implementing ‘No to Drugs’. Zumba training has already started in many schools with the cooperation of PTA.
