
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The first phase of the Wayanad model township, which the government is preparing for the rehabilitation of the Mundakai-Chooralmala disaster victims, has been completed. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the township and distribute the patta at a function to be held at Elston Estate on the 25th at 4 pm. Minister K. Rajan will preside.
178 houses in the first phase have been completed. The houses will be provided to families who had their homes completely destroyed in the disaster. The buildings, built on a single floor of 1000 square feet, have a two-story foundation. A main bedroom, two rooms, a sitting room, living room, study room, dining room, kitchen and store area are included as part of the house. More than 1662 people will live in the 410 houses being prepared in the township. Public roads, health centres, anganwadi, public market and community centres are also ready. The health centre will also have a laboratory, pharmacy, examination and vaccination, observation rooms, OP and ticket counter facilities. Shops, stalls, an open market, children's playground and parking will be prepared in the public market. A multipurpose hall, playground, library, sports club and open-air theatre will be built in the community centre.
The government has acquired 64.4705 hectares of land in Elston Estate in Kalpetta Village to build the township. Ministers O.R. Kelu, Roshy Augustine, A.K. Saseendran, Kadannappally Ramachandran, K.B. Ganeshkumar, P.A. Muhammed Riyas, Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan, Deputy Opposition Leader P.K. Kunhalikutty, Priyanka Gandhi MP, T. Siddique MLA, other public representatives and officials will participate.
