19-year-old electrocuted after coming into contact with snapped power line

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A 19-year-old youth died after coming into contact with a snapped power line. The incident happened at Nedumangad in Thiruvananthapuram. The dead is Akshay Suresh of Panayamuttom in Nedumangad. He was a third-year degree student. The accident happened when he was going home on his bike after his catering work. He came into contact with an electric wire lying on the road after a tree fell on the post.


The incident happened near the Panayamuttom Muslim Mosque at midnight. Two more people were on the bike with Akshay. The bike was driven by Akshay. The post and the tree were lying on the road after the tree uprooted on top of the post. According to initial information provided by the police, Akshay, who was passing by, was electrocuted after his bike hit the post.


Two others called the locals and took Akshay to the hospital, but his life could not be saved. Akshay's body is kept at the Nedumangad District Hospital. The police reached the spot and started further proceedings. The locals alleged that the post was very old and no action was taken even after complaining several times. There was heavy rain and wind in the area yesterday.
