
KOZHIKODE: With bottled water becoming a hit, the Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation, under the Water Resources Department, is planning to launch ice cubes under the brand 'Hilly Aqua'. The manufacturing unit is located at the plant in Aruvikkara, Thiruvananthapuram. The bullet-shaped ice cubes will soon be launched in the market under the name 'Mineral Ice'.
750 kg will be produced per day. It will be launched in the market in one, two and five kg packets. The price will be decided soon. If the project yields results, the production will be expanded to other plants.
The water used to make bottled water, which complies with the standards of the Bureau of Indian Standards and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, will also be used to make ice. This will be the first plant in the state to make ice using the same water used to produce bottled water.
In addition to the Thodupuzha and Aruvikkara plants, production of bottled water will be doubled by setting up plants in Kattappana, Perambra, and Aluva. A 20-litre jar plant is being set up in Aluva. 90,800 litres of bottled water are being produced daily at the Thodupuzha and Aruvikkara plants. Steps are also being taken to export more to foreign countries. So far, 51,228 litres of one-and-a-half-litre bottled water have been exported. Distribution is also taking place in states, including Tamil Nadu.
