KOZHIKODE: Amoebic encephalitis claimed another life in the state after Bathery native Ratheesh (45), who was undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College, died on Saturday. 11 people infected with the disease are undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. The condition of two of the patients is said to be very serious.
A ten-year-old boy from Malappuram was confirmed with the disease on Thursday. The boy is undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College. Doctors warned about his deteriorating health as he had other illnesses too. The other day, a three-month-old baby who was undergoing treatment for amoebic encephalitis died. The deceased was Mohammed Ahil, son of Abdul Siddique and Menuna couple from Kaniyampuram, Omassery. The baby, who had low immunity, was undergoing treatment on a ventilator at the Maternal and Child Care Centre.
The child was admitted to the hospital on August 4 with a high fever. The disease was confirmed in a swab test conducted at the Virology Lab in Chandigarh. An examination conducted by the Health Department revealed that the disease was transmitted from the water in the well at home.
As per doctors, many in Kerala are seeking treatment with symptoms of amoebic encephalitis. At least one person is being confirmed to have the disease every day. At the same time, doctors say that there are complications in finding the source of the disease.
