PALAKKAD: The son of the man who died of Nipah virus infection in Changaleeri has also tested positive for the virus. The diagnosis was confirmed through tests conducted at Manjeri Medical College. The 32-year-old son had been with his father at the hospital and was already under medical surveillance as part of the contact tracing protocol. He is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
Following the initial Nipah report, the district administration had implemented precautionary health measures in the region. A Nipah control cell has also been set up in Palakkad.
The 58-year-old man from Mannarkkad had died of Nipah infection the previous day. After his death, both of his sons and a healthcare worker showing symptoms such as fever were admitted to the hospital. Although the wife showed no symptoms, she was also hospitalised as a precaution and placed under observation.
