THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A young woman who was undergoing treatment following the shocking accident in front of Gernarl Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday.
S Sripriya (23) of Muttathara Vallakadavu TC 42/743 ‘Puthuval Puthenveetil’ died today. She was seriously injured in the accident and was undergoing treatment at the Medical College. The accident took place on August 10.
Apart from Sripriya, auto drivers Shafi (52) from Pettah, Surendran (Suran - 54) from Kannammoola, Kumar from Pettah, and Anjaneyan (23) from Sasthamkotta, Kollam, were also injured. Shafi, an auto driver, died two weeks ago while undergoing treatment. The health conditions of others have shown improvement.
Sripriya, a lab technician, was at the hospital to assist her friend Anjaneyan, who had come to the General Hospital for treatment of a fever. When they were walking along the sidewalk from the hospital to the auto stand, the speeding car rammed into them. Anjaneyan, alarmed by the screeching sound, tried to push away Sripriya to safety, but to no avail.
AK Vishnunath, a native of Valiyavila, caused the accident with his reckless driving. Vishnu was with his uncle, learning to drive in the busy GH junction. The car crashed into the iron railing of the footpath while coming from the Pattoor side. The Motor Vehicle Department suspended the licenses of Vishnunath and his uncle Vijayan.
More sections were imposed in the case registered against Vishnunath by the police. Sripriya is the youngest of the three children of carpenter Babu and Selvi. The funeral took place on Wednesday at the Muttathara crematorium. Siblings: Aneesh and Aswathy.
