PATHANAMTHITTA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was showered with gifts in Thiruvalla that reflected the cultural uniqueness and faith of Kerala. Beyond politics, each of the gifts, which intertwined the art and culture of Kerala, was resplendent with many features.

The world-famous Aranmula Mirror, emblematic of the cultural richness of the Pathanamthitta district, was presented to the Prime Minister as a sign of respect. The Aranmula Mirror is considered a symbol of prosperity and good fortune.

Another major attraction on the stage was the 'thappu', the main instrument of the Padayani, a ritual art form of Central Travancore. BJP leader Anoop Antony gifted it to the Prime Minister, and the PM wasted no time playing it, leaving the thousands of supporters exalted. Modi's interest in rural arts was also evident in those moments.

It was interesting that PM Modi was later gifted an idol of the Resurrected Christ, as Thiruvalla is home to a dominant Christian population. The figure of Jesus Christ was handed over by the BJP Kottayam District Committee. The organisers were able to convey the message that development brings people from all walks of life together. Another gift given to the Prime Minister by Anoop Antony was the crown of Kathakali, the classic art form of Kerala. The last one was a special souvenir inscribed with the caption 'BJP Kerala'.

Beyond the election campaign, Thiruvalla became a platform where Kerala's cultural consciousness and religious harmony came together. The Prime Minister was palpably enthused with the gifts and the reception received in the central Travancore region. Soon, PM Modi will land in the capital of Kerala to take part in a massive road show.
