KOZHIKODE: Doctors at a government hospital in Kozhikode district are preparing for a strike. The protest follows the incident in which the father of a child who died of Amoebic Meningoencephalitis slashed the doctor. The KGMOA has clarified that doctors at all government hospitals in Kozhikode district will boycott services except the emergency department and go on strike.
All services at Thamarassery Hospital have been suspended. Only the emergency department will function in other government hospitals in the district. Doctor Vipin of Thamarassery Taluk Hospital was hacked. The doctor, who was admitted to a private hospital after being hacked on the head, is in a serious condition. The police have taken Sanoop, who carried out the attack, into custody. Sanoop maintained that his daughter was not suffering from Amoebic Meningoencephalitis.
Sanoop slashed the doctor, alleging that his daughter died because she did not receive adequate treatment. Vipin was attacked by Sanoop, who yelled, 'One who killed my daughter.' Sanoop arrived at the scene and attacked the doctor while Vipin was talking to the patient's relatives. Sanoop had come to the hospital in search of the superintendent. The superintendent was not there at the time. The two children were with him. Sanoop attacked Vipin upon seeing him. It is not clear whether it was Vipin who treated Anaya. Sanoop has been arrested by the police.
Sanoop first arrived at Thamarassery Taluk Hospital with Anaya, who was suffering from fever. It was there that Anaya's illness worsened. Anaya was referred to Kozhikode Medical College, but she died by the time she reached the hospital. The younger child had also previously suffered from Amoebic Meningoencephalitis.
