THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Travancore Devaswom Board President K Jayakumar said that it was the onus of the board to ensure that the gold and property donated by devotees remain safe. Jayakumar also admitted that the recent incidents have eroded the trust devotees had in the board. He was speaking to the media after assuming the role of board president.
Jayakumar:
“It is true that the faith of the devotees was affected. The news coming over the gold theft is disappointing. I won’t be responding to it now. The aim is to examine the flaws in the actions and approaches of the board and ensure nothing similar happens again. The devotees had entrusted the board with the duty of protecting the deity and temple. We should work to regain trust. The board is responsible for assuring that the property and gold donated by the devotees are safe.
If the governing body that runs this institution decides not to entertain such unscrupulous dealings, nothing will happen. I am aware of most of the troubles associated with the board, and thus, it will make my work easier. I am not boasting of upending the board overnight. There will be transparency in the work of the institution. I can vouch for that.”
