The melodic songs from the hit combo of M G Sreekumar and K S Chithra are eternal and are etched into the memorabilia of Kerala's musical history. Even today, there are torrents of requests from fans demanding hit songs of this combo to be played at musical events. M G Sreekumar’s sister Professor Omanakutty was Chithra's teacher who helped the nightingale of Kerala take baby steps into music during her novice years. However, recently through his YouTube channel, singer M G Sreekumar opened up about his earlier tiff with Chithra’s husband Vijayakumar.
M G SREEKUMAR:
“The incident took place during the recording of the song 'Kanneer Kayaliletho'. Chithra's husband Vijayan and I have been friends for long. The day before the recording, I had a verbal feud with Vijayan. Still, I don’t remember the reason for the fight, but the situation turned worse and we both stormed out of the place.
The next day Chithra came to the studio to record the song ‘Kanneer Kayaliletho’ but surprisingly her husband who used to accompany her everywhere was missing. Chithra kept a passive countenance and said nothing. This time, it struck me about the previous day's fight.
Many surmises passed through my mind, Will Chithra decide to stop singing with me again? Amidst the many thoughts, the music director came to give his suggestions and we were directed to sing our separate parts. Throughout the recording, Chithra found comfort in her stoic silence and never engaged in any conversation.
Before the recording, I went to have tea and came prepared for the song. It takes three monitor times before the final recording. In the first monitor, my sound cracked and it alerted all others. Chithra then broke her silence and assisted me with hot water. It gave me immense relief that she talked to me, more than anything.
The sadness within me also faded away and both of us performed the song well which later turned out to be a super hit."
