Bird flu in two districts of Kerala; Chickens and ducks infected, orders immediate action

ALAPPUZHA: Bird flu has been confirmed in Kottayam and Alappuzha. The presence of the virus was confirmed in the tests conducted at a lab in Bhopal. The infection has been reported in each ward of the eight panchayats in Alappuzha. In Kottayam, the infection is reported in all three wards. In Alappuzha, the infection is reported in Nedumudi, Cheruthana, Karuvatta, Karthikappally, Ambalappuzha South, Punnapra South, Thakazhi and Purakkad panchayats.


Chickens were found to be infected in Nedumudi and ducks in other places. In Kottayam, the infection is reported in Kurupanthara, Manjoor, Kallupuraikkal, and Velur wards. Quails and chickens are infected in Kottayam. The test results have been received by the Animal Husbandry Department. Based on the report, the Animal Husbandry Department has issued instructions for urgent action.
