Saji, an auto driver died on February 28 at a private hospital in Parumala. Leena had booked a ticket to return home that evening after learning the news, but the Iran-Israel conflict caused the cancellation of flights and the closure of the airport. This halted her journey and following that Saji's funeral was also postponed.
Leena, a nurse at Sira Hospital in Salmiya, Kuwait, returned to Kuwait two months ago after vacation. Officials of the cultural organization Kala Kuwait in Kuwait and the Indian Embassy are continuing their efforts to send Leena home.
