Body parts washing ashore, ambulance coming in every five minutes; people shouting to save them

KALPETTA: The death toll in the Wayanad landslide has risen. Reports said bodies and body parts are being washed ashore in many places. Ambulances are arriving every five minutes to take the injured.


There are reports that more than 400 people are trapped in different places. Chooralmala ward member C K Nooruddin told a media that many of the houses are filled with mud and rocks. People including women and children are shouting to save them.

Chooramala Bridge and the main road in Mundakkai Attamala have been collapsed. The army may come here and build a temporary bridge and carry out the rescue operations. The state government has started efforts to bring the helicopter to the disaster site.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan responded that all arrangements have been made. He said that more details of the accident cannot be disclosed now and the rescue mission has been intensified. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has spoken to the Chief Minister over the phone.

Meantime,the bodies of 24 people have been found so far. Locals said many houses in the area are missing. Vellarmala school has been completely destroyed.
