Brahmapuram plant didn't follow rules for solid waste management, Central Pollution Control Board's report say

KOCHI: The fire at the Brahmapuram waste plant, which has made Kochi hellish for the past eleven days, is yet to be fully extinguished. The district administration claims that 90 percent of the fire has been extinguished. Meanwhile, the report of the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) came out that the Brahmapuram plant was operating without following the rules.

The report of the Central Pollution Control Board has also listed the failures of the companies that have taken contracts in Brahmapuram. After the fire, a special team representing the Central Pollution Control Board reached Kochi and inspected the plant.

The inspection of the Central Pollution Control Board found that Brahmapuram did not follow the rules for solid waste management and that Kochi Corporation has made a big mistake in this regard. Meanwhile, the plant has not received approval from the State Pollution Control Board.


Masks made mandatory

Health Minister Veena George has suggested that those who go out in Kochi must wear masks. A high-level committee appointed by the High Court visited Brahmapuram. A high-level committee appointed by the government directed the Pollution Control Board to conduct a risk analysis.
