Car explodes while starting, nurse Elsy and three children injured, two in critical condition

PALAKKAD: Four people, including children, were injured when a car exploded while starting in Polpully. The Maruti 800 car exploded. Athicode native Elsy Martin (40) who is a nurse at a private hospital, and her children Aleena (10), Alfin (6), and Amy (4) were injured. Alfin and Amy are said to be in critical condition. They were shifted to a private hospital in Ernakulam with more than 90 percent burns. The accident occurred around 5:30 pm on Friday.

The accident occurred in the evening when Elsy was about to go out in the car with her children. After everyone got into the car, Elsy started the vehicle and after this, there was a loud explosion and the car caught fire. No one was able to get out of the car quickly. Locals who came running after hearing the explosion put out the fire and took them to the hospital. It is reported that the fire was caused by an explosion of a gas cylinder inside the car and a short circuit caused the accident.
