KANNUR: The police registered a case against Anoop Malik, a tenant in the house that was destroyed in the explosion on Saturday morning. A case was registered under the Explosives Act. Anoop used to supply firecrackers in large quantities for festivals. The victim of the explosion is believed to be his employee. The dismembered body was shifted to the hospital from the house. Anoop Malik was formerly accused in an explosion case in a house in Podikundu, Kannur, in 2016.
Muhammed Asham, a native of Chalad, Kannur, tragically died in the incident on Saturday morning. It is believed that the tenants have been living in the house for the past year. "The raw materials for making firecrackers required for the festival were stored here. Further investigation is being conducted into the incident,' said City Police Commissioner Nitin Raj.
Meanwhile, the CPM raised political allegations in the Kannapuram blast. Kannur District Secretary KK Ragesh alleged Anoop Malik of having close ties with the Congress. The CPM demanded a case to be registered against Anoop to bring out the politics behind the explosion. The temple festival season is over in the district, and so it is dubious that the gang was involved in fireworks preparation inside the house. CPM expressed serious concern over the manufacture of the deadly explosive device in the district.
The explosion took place at around 2 am today. It is reported that the human body parts were found scattered around the house. After receiving information about the accident, the Kannapuram police inspected the spot. The fire force team also reached the spot. Police believe that the accident occurred during bomb making. Unexploded homemade bombs were found in the house. The bomb squad is also inspecting the accident site.
The impact of the explosion also caused damage to nearby houses. The doors of several houses were broken, and cracks appeared in the walls.
