Case registered against creators of 'Pottiye Kettiye' song; action likely against those spreading song

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A case was registered against the trending parody song 'Pottiye Kettiye', which was widely used by opposition parties in the local body elections. The case was registered by the Thiruvananthapuram Cyber ​​Police on a complaint filed by Prasad Kuzhikala, General Secretary of the Thiruvabharanam Patha Samrakshana Samithi. The lyricist, music director and those who spread the song will be named as the accused. The police found that the use of Lord Ayyappan's name in the song hurt religious sentiments.

The case was registered against lyricist GP Kunjabdulla, a Nadapuram-based expat; Haneefa, a native of Kozhikode, who composed the music, and Danish Kootilangadi, who sang it. After a preliminary investigation revealed that a case could be registered, the complaint was forwarded to the cyber police station. The song was widely circulated during the local body elections.

CPM district secretary Raju Abraham said that a complaint was filed with the Election Commission, stating that the song violated the election code of conduct. The complaint states that the Congress and the BJP tried to use the song to polarise the community and win votes.
