THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ayahs who were dismissed in the case of child abuse in the Child Welfare Committee have been reappointed. Six of the nine ayahs who were dismissed have been reappointed by the government. The government reappointed six of them following the intervention of the CPM. A two-and-a-half-year-old girl was brutally punished by ayahs of the Thiruvananthapuram Child Welfare Committee in December last year.
After the incident became a big controversy, it was revealed that ayahs regularly hurt children in the Child Welfare Committee. The police had arrested three ayahs and nine ayahs were dismissed following widespread protests in the incident. Six ayahs who were involved in this have now been reinstated. The ayahs hurt the child as punishment for wetting the bed. A fourth lady, who was not one of the three ayahs who regularly cared for the child, noticed the wound on the child's body while bathing her. She then informed the authorities. This is how the incident came to light.
