KOCHI: A groom's iPhone worth Rs. 1.5 lakh fell into the gutter while rescuing a 10-year-old boy whose foot got stuck in a gap in the drain cover. The boy was saved, but the fire force had to arrive to retrieve the phone.

The incident took place at 3 pm yesterday in front of a jeweller's shop near Woodland Junction on M.G. Road in Kochi city. The child had come from Kalady to Kochi with the bride and groom to buy a wedding ring. While walking to the shop, the child's right leg got stuck in the gap in the lid of the drain. The left leg also got stuck while trying to pull out the right leg.

With this, the groom who was with him started the rescue operation. He pulled out the child's leg with great difficulty. Sadly, the iPhone in the groom's pocket fell into the drain during the rescue mission. When the fire force arrived and removed the cover after being informed by the jewellers, the phone was covered in mud inside the drain. At this time, a worker who came by this way went down into the drain and pulled out the phone. The child's leg was slightly injured.
