THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a change in the name of the brandy being launched by the government-owned brewery. The name 'Malabar Mystery' was initially revealed. However, BEVCO has named the brandy 'Minnal Magic'. The new name will be announced by the excise minister.

The new brandy is being produced by Malabar Distilleries, which operates near Menonpara in Palakkad. Initially, half a liter of liquor will be available. A bottle costs Rs 400. The new brandy will reach outlets next month.

The court had taken up BEVCO'S advertisement of paying Rs 10,000 to those who suggest a suitable name and logo for the liquor. The high court had sent a notice to the government following complaints of government agencies promoting alcohol consumption. BEVCO later claimed that they had no role in the advertisement. The court then stayed the advertisement to name the liquor.
