THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan condoled the death of Dr Malathi Damodaran, daughter of former Chief Minister EMS Namboodiripad.
'Dr Malathi Damodaran was a daughter who lived following the principles of her great father. She was one who captured the vision of EMS that girls should not be known by their father's or husband's address. Dr Malathi was also a popular public health activist who made a mark as a pediatrician. Simplicity was her mark. As the daughter of EMS, had a special intimacy with her and share the grief of the family,' the chief minister said in a condolence message.
Dr Malathi Damodaran passed away Saturday early morning at her residence at Sasthamangalam in Thiruvananthapuram. She was 87. Her husband Dr A D Damodaran had predeceased her. Malathi had served as a pediatrician at the Christian Medical College in Vellore. After retirement, she was working in Sree Ramakrishna Mission Hospital in Sasthamangalam for a long time.
She leaves behind her children Prof Sumangala (Delhi University) Harish Damodaran (Indian Express rural editor) and daughter-in-law: Sheela Tabor (engineer, Saudi).
