KOLLAM: A woman was acquitted in the case of strangling her husband with a plastic rope. The verdict was pronounced by the Kottarakkara Additional Sessions Court judge Reena Das. The incident happened on January 24 in 2017. Shaji (40) of Kumbalam was killed. The court acquitted Asha (44) of Asha Vilas, Perayam, Padappakara N S Nagar in the case.
The couple was staying in Asha's house. Shaji, a fisherman used to physically abuse her after drunk. The case is that Asha strangled him using a plastic rope when he was sleeping after returning home from work at around 7 pm.
In order to make it look like a suicide, she hung him from the fan in the bedroom. Thinking it was a suicide; his funeral was held the next day. An investigation later proved to be a murder. The case was investigated by the Kundara police. The court acquitted the accused, stating that the prosecution could not prove the case beyond reasonable doubt, even though 17 witnesses were examined and 25 documents and 15 pieces of evidence were presented by the prosecution.
