THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Ramesh Chennithala said that Congress would not stand by as spectators if its representatives are attacked by blocking their vehicles on the road. He was reacting to the incident in Vadakara where DYFI workers stopped MP Shafi Parambil. DYFI had protested against the MP in Vadakara, alleging that he was providing unnecessary protection to Rahul Mamkootathil. Chennithala said that if the CPM goons thought that they could block their vehicles on the road and attack them, Congress would not stand by as spectators and watch.
'No one should think that they can intimidate us by showing hooliganism. They should also not think that they can threaten Congress representatives. If they try to start a street war, they will have to pay a heavy price. Congress is against violent politics, but no one should see that as a weakness. We are capable of retaliating if we get hit. CPM should take immediate steps to stop their goonda gang,' Ramesh Chennithala said
The protest against the MP in Vadakara was turning into a dramatic scene. The MP got out of the vehicle, saying that the protesters were verbally abusing him. This led to a direct exchange of words between the MP and protesters. Shafi Parambil alleged that DYFI workers shouted obscenities during the protest. Shafi Parambil responded that he would not leave just like that if he heard someone calling him 'naaye' or 'patti'.
"Did you think I would leave if you yelled obscenities? If you want to protest, do it. If you think you can scare me away, you are wrong. I don't intend to leave in fear of anyone. Those who are protesting can do so. I respect that right. But if you say something inappropriate, if you call me 'naaye' or 'patti', no one should think that I will just leave after hearing it. I have also protested. Do not say anything vulgar in the name of the protest.
I told the police that no one should get hurt, and asked them to stop the vehicle so that people would not get hit and injured. I am the person who said that. I do not intend to be scared away from Vadakara like that. I will be right here." Shafi Parambil said.
