KOLLAM: A middle-aged woman who was crossing the platform to get to the other side severed her leg when a train coming from the loop track hit her. The accident happened to Preethi Lal, a native of Kottayam Thiruvathukkal, who had got off the train at Karunagappally railway station. Preethi Lal had got off the Vanchinad Express at Karunagappally station at 7.30 am. Then the train, which was slowing down in the other direction, hit her shoulder. The woman who fell was unable to get her leg out as her saree got stuck on the tracks.

Kunjumon, a nearby resident who witnessed the incident, took her with her severed leg in an ambulance to Karunagappally Taluk Hospital and later to Kottayam Medical College.

Preethi Lal's information was not available as her phone was locked. She was identified after a call was received on the way to the hospital. Her relatives immediately reached Kottayam Medical College after learning about the information. The severed leg was so badly damaged that it could not be replanted.
