Cyclonic circulation and extreme low pressure; Rains to intensify in Kerala, fishing banned

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fishing has been banned for three days as rains are intensifying in the state. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has banned fishing along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts from today till September 27. There is a warning that strong winds with a speed of 40 to 50 kmph and at times up to 60 kmph and bad weather are likely.

In the next three hours, there is a possibility of thundershowers and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam. Considering the heavy rain, a yellow alert has been issued in various districts for the next three days.

There is a possibility of moderate rainfall in Kerala for the next five days due to the cyclonic circulation and the severe low pressure. The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of isolated heavy rainfall from September 25 to 27.
