
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, adjoining the southeast Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean near the eastern equator, has intensified into a very deep depression. It is very likely to move west-northwestwards over the southwest Bay of Bengal during the next 36 hours and make landfall between Habantota and Kalmunai on the Sri Lankan coast by tomorrow evening/night.
A cyclonic circulation is located over the southeast Arabian Sea near South Kerala. In this situation, light/moderate rain is possible in Kerala for five days. Isolated heavy rain is also possible on January 10, the Central Meteorological Department informed.
There is a possibility of light rain at isolated places in the Thiruvananthapuram district in the next three hours. There is a yellow alert in Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts on Saturday.
The Central Meteorological Department informed that there is no restriction on fishing along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts today. Strong winds and bad weather are likely along the Tamil Nadu coast, Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Kanyakumari area with a speed of 45 to 55 kmph and at times up to 65 kmph. The sea may be rough in these areas.
