Deaths of dialysis patients, case registered against Haripad Taluk Hospital

HARIPAD: The police have registered a case against Haripad Taluk Hospital after two patients died while undergoing dialysis. The patients developed symptoms such as shivering and vomiting while undergoing dialysis. The police have registered a case against the hospital authorities for medical negligence. The police case is under sections 125 and 106 (1) of the IPC. The hospital superintendent and dialysis unit employees will be arraigned in the case.


Five patients suffered shivering and discomfort during dialysis on December 29. Following that, Majeed (52) of Kayamkulam and auto driver, who was admitted to the medical college hospital died on the night of December 30 and Ramachandran (60), a vegetable trader of Vettuveni Chakkanat, who was admitted to a private hospital in Thattarambalam, died on Wednesday.


The case was registered on the complaint of Ramachandran's relatives. The police also demanded that a new medical board be formed and an investigation be conducted. Following the complaint, an expert team led by the additional director of the health department conducted a preliminary examination of the dialysis equipment and the water used. However, no abnormalities were found in it. The hospital superintendent also responded that no infection was found.
