Devices reach medical college at lightning speed, 11 surgeries performed in urology; all thanks to Dr Haris Chirakkal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Dr Haris Chirakkal, who has been fighting a one-man battle against the government system that is playing with the lives of patients at the medical college, has achieved his goal. The surgical equipment Lithoclast probe, which he requested as the head of the urology department, was airlifted from Hyderabad.

The surgeries that were postponed since Friday were performed on Tuesday. 11 surgeries were performed. Five of them were for fragmenting stones in the urinary tract using a probe and related surgeries. Two probes were delivered. These can be used for about a month. One more will arrive in two days.

Superintendent may be replaced, why?

The investigation by the four-member committee of the Medical Education Department investigating the allegations made by Dr Haris Chirakkal has been completed. The report will be immediately forwarded to the Health Minister. It is indicated that the superintendent will be replaced.

1. It was found that the hospital development committee and its secretary, the superintendent, committed serious lapses in making the equipment requested by Dr Haris available immediately.
2. The files were not settled in a timely manner. It is learned that the committee assessed that the diligence shown to protect the interests of the employees is not happening with the patients or treatment.

Agricultural college student happy

• Dr Haris Chirakkal himself performed the surgery of the 23-year-old agricultural college student on Tuesday, which was cancelled at the last minute in a way that exposed the problems at the hospital.
• Dr. Haris decided to perform the surgery urgently seeing the student's critical condition, but had to back out due to lack of equipment. It was in the emotional pain of this that he exposed the negligence and disadvantages. The student is recovering.
