THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: While the world is celebrating Doctors' Day, Kerala doctors in the medical education sector are in a situation where they have to take to the streets, said KGMCTA Kerala State President Dr T Roshanara Begum. She was inaugurating the state-level protest march organized by KGMCTA against the non-development of infrastructure in government medical colleges at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College.
"Medical colleges are in a state of disarray. Since the working hours of medical college teachers are not fixed, they are working day and night. Even doctors who are about to retire are being pushed around to fool the National Medical Council and the Health University ahead of the inspection of new medical colleges. Young doctors are not ready to join government medical colleges," she pointed out.
Thiruvananthapuram unit president Dr Shibu presided over the protest. Protests were led by unit presidents in other medical colleges. Dr Nizamuddin in Kollam Medical College, Dr Ratheesh in Konni, Dr Sanjay in Alappuzha, Dr Frederick Paul in Kottayam, Dr Ramkumar in Idukki, Dr Venugopal in Ernakulam, Dr Binoy in Thrissur, Dr Ashraf in Manjeri, Dr Abdul Basit and Dr Aravind in Kozhikode, Dr Aneenkutty in Wayanad and Dr Sindhu in Kasaragod led the protest.
