DYFI leader's head smashed in melee in Alappuzha; BJP workers booked for attempted murder

ALAPPUZHA: An attempt to murder case was registered against six BJP workers for assaulting an LDF candidate. The incident took place in Neelamperoor panchayat in Alappuzha. Ramjith, the district joint secretary of DYFI, was contesting for the district panchayat in the region. He was roughed up the other day by BJP workers. A case was registered by the Kainady police. BJP had stormed to power in this panchayat, unseating LDF.

It was reported that the BJP workers smashed the head of Ramjith in the melee. The DYFI leader is undergoing treatment at Kottayam Medical College Hospital. Police say the attack was triggered by a dispute that broke out after the election results were announced. BJP workers were also injured in the attack.
