KOCHI: Malayalam actor Jayasurya suffered a setback in the Save Box App fraud case. The Enforcement Directorate has frozen the actor’s assets worth Rs 39 lakh. Jayasurya was the brand ambassador of the company. The ED had questioned him twice in the case.
This was after the central government directed the investigation agencies to intensify legal action against companies that cheat people through online platforms. The agencies were directed to take action against those acting after taking money in advertisements that cheat people and against those receiving money as accomplices in the fraud.
The ED had earlier found that Jayasurya's wife had one crore in her account. The ED had informed that they would investigate more of the actor's accounts to find out the details of Jayasurya's remuneration as a brand ambassador. The ED had also started investigating the film connections of the app's owner, Swathiq Rahim.
The visuals show many actors attending the launch of the app. Jayasurya was the face of the initiative. After the app owner, Swathiq Rahim, was arrested in the huge financial fraud, there was widespread criticism for the celebrities including Jayasurya working to promote it. After the ED took over the investigation initiated by the police, Swathiq Rahim was first questioned. Jayasurya was summoned later after checking his account details.
