ED summons actor Jayaram in Sabarimala gold theft case

KOCHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned actor Jayaram for interrogation in the Sabarimala gold theft case. The notice issued has asked him to appear for the interrogation next week. The ED issued notice to the actor to seek clarity on his relationship with Unnikrishnan Potty, the main accused in the case. The actor was earlier questioned by a special investigation team in the case.

The ED action is after video footage of Jayaram and Potty performing pooja together had surfaced. The investigation team found that the theft happened in 2019 in the golden door, door frames of the Sabarimala sreekovil and Dwarapalaka sheets. The new door was dedicated in March 2019. The door frames were built in June. The Dwarapalaka sheets were dedicated in September. Pooja was performed at Jayaram’s house when the gold sheets were brought here at the same time. The visuals of it had emerged. In addition, footage of Jayaram attending the pooja held at Smart Creations was also released.

Jayaram was questioned by the SIT at his residence in Chennai. The questions were about his relationship with Potty. Jayaram had stated that the relationship started at Sabarimala and that he had come to his house for pooja several times. He trusted Potty. He was unaware of any financial dealings or fraud. He also participated when the door frames of the sreekovil were brought to Smart Creations in Chennai. He also participated when the door frames were brought to the Ilampally temple in Kottayam and taken for a procession. Jayaram stated that he had no financial dealings with him
