
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eid will be celebrated across the state on Friday after the Shawwal crescent moon was sighted last night, marking the end of the fasting month of Ramzan. Carrying messages of friendship and compassion, believers gathered in mosques and Eidgahs. Special prayers were held in various mosques and Eidgahs across the state.

In Thiruvananthapuram, prayers held at Chandrasekharan Nair Stadium were led by Palayam Imam Dr V P Suhaib Maulavi. In Malappuram, Shihab Pookkottur delivered the Eid message at the Eidgah held at Kottappadi Stadium. In Kottayam, preparations were made for prayers at the Nagambadam ground under the leadership of the Central Eidgah Committee. In his Eid message, Dr V P Suhaib Maulavi urged people to pray for an end to the conflicts in West Asia. The chief minister and other prominent figures from political and social fields also extended Eid greetings.
Meantime, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow in other states across the country. However, in Gulf countries including Oman, the festival is being observed today. Considering the present tense situations, restrictions have been imposed on Eidgah gatherings and public assemblies in the Gulf region.
