Elderly woman roughed up by attacker in Kottayam, gold bangles stolen

KOTTAYAM: Police intensified the investigation for the accused who broke into the house, beat up an elderly woman and ran away with her gold bangle. Annamma Simon (80), of Thekkeparambil house near the Homeo College, 5th ward of Kurichy Panchayat, was seriously injured in the incident.

The seriously injured Annamma was admitted to the Medical College Hospital. The incident took place around 11 am on Sunday.

The theft occurred while the whole family was at church. Their house is located at the intersection of four roads. Annamma, her husband Simon, her eldest son Sibi, and his wife Suma live there. The main door of the house was closed, but the other members left for church without locking it.

When the family returned, they found the door ajar. Annamma was lying unconscious on the bed in the room, bleeding from a cut on her left hand. The necklace was not lost. It is believed that the bracelet was cut using a cutter. The police and a forensic team led by the Chingavanam SHO reached the spot and took further action.
