
KOCHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan dedicated the Perumbalam Bridge, the longest bridge built across Vembanad Lake in Kerala, to the nation. This bridge was built for Rs 106 crore from KIIFB funds to solve the travel woes of about 12,000 people on Perumbalam Island.
The long-awaited dream of the residents of Perumbalam Island came true today. Thousands of people came to Perumbalam to watch the inauguration ceremony. The Chief Minister's motorcade reached near the Perumbalam Bridge in the afternoon. Soon, the ribbon was cut, and the chief minister inaugurated the bridge. Public Works Minister Mohammed Riyas and others attended the ceremony. After cutting the ribbon, the Chief Minister's motorcade went to the other side of the bridge.
The CM also flagged off the first KSRTC bus service to Perumbalam Island. This is a 1157-meter long and 11-meter-wide bridge. The bridge is built across the Vembanad Lake. The bridge has three rainbow-colored bowstring arches in the middle. The width of the bridge here is 12 meters. 12,000 people live in the 14 wards of the Perumbalam panchayat. The bridge was built by the Uralungal Society for Rs 100 crores.
