Extremely heavy rain: Restrictions imposed on tourist destinations in multiple districts, red alert in Thiruvananthapuram

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain continues in various districts of the state. A red alert has been issued in Thiruvananthapuram district for the next three hours. The forecast says that there is a possibility of heavy rain and strong winds with a speed of up to 50 kmph. A red alert has been issued in Kasaragod and Kannur districts tomorrow following heavy rain. A migrant labourer died in a landslide at a red laterite stone quarry in Kannur. Assam native Gopal Barman died in an accident at a red laterite stone quarry in Chooral. Tipper driver Jithin was injured. The accident occurred around 5:30 pm.

Water sports have been banned in water bodies in Idukki. Restrictions from May 24 to 27. Trekking in mudslide and landslide-prone areas has also been banned. Night travel has also been banned from 7 pm to 6 am on Monday, when the red alert has been issued. Quarry operations, excavation and mining have also been banned in Kozhikode district. Tourists have been banned from river banks, beaches and waterfalls in Kozhikode.

As a red alert has been issued in Malappuram district on Sunday and Monday, entry to Adyanpara, Karuvarakundu and Keralamkundu waterfalls in Nilambur has been banned from today. A caution has been issued in coastal and riverine tourist destinations and other parks that are prone to danger. The district administration has announced that there will be no entry to the Paithalmala Eco-Tourism Center in Kannur tomorrow.

In the wake of the red alert in Wayanad district, restrictions were imposed on tourist destinations yesterday. Entry of tourists to the Edakkal cave has been banned. Boating in Kuruva, Kanthanpara, Pookode and Karlad centres has been suspended. Although the parks will remain open, all adventure and water sports activities in the district have been strictly banned.
