KOTTAYAM: A farmer was found hanging in the office of the CPI at Thalayazham in Vaikom, Kottayam. The dead is Chellappan Pulikkasseri. He was found hanging in CPI’s election committee office. It is believed that Chellappan committed suicide last night. He was found hanging Tuesday morning.

Chellappan had applied for agricultural loans from a bank where CPI leaders are members. However, as he did not receive the loans, his crops were destroyed, said his relatives. They alleged that he ended his life as he was very upset over this.

Chellappan, a CPI sympathiser and local leader, had criticized the party leadership on social media. He later left the party. He had recently campaigned for the Congress candidate in Vaikom. It is also reported that he received threats from CPI leaders lately. His relatives are firm in their stand that they will not allow the body to be removed unless the RDO arrives.
