First Blue alert after 2022: Water level rises in Idukki dam

IDUKKI: The first alert, the Blue Alert, has been issued at the Idukki dam as the water level has risen steadily. This was after the water level reached 2372.88 feet at 7 am yesterday. The latest information is that the water level is 2373.30 feet. This is 67.21 percent of the maximum storage capacity. This is 16 feet more water than the same time last year. The maximum storage capacity is 2403 feet.

According to the current rule level set by the Central Water Commission, an orange alert will be issued if the water level reaches 2378.58 feet and a red alert will be issued if it reaches 2389.58 feet. The steps to open the dam will begin after this. The upper rule level is 2380.58 feet. Rain is heavy in the catchment area. 118.8 mm of rain fell in the 24 hours till yesterday morning. 42.034 million cubic meters of water flowed into the dam. The water level rose by more than two feet in a day. The last blue alert was issued in 2022.

Power generation increased

KSEB has maximized the power generation from Moolamattom Power House to avoid the situation of opening the dam due to the water level rising rapidly. More than 17 million units were produced yesterday. This is a record production in recent times. Six generators are also being operated. Water to generate 64.727 million units of electricity flowed into the dam in the 24 hours till yesterday morning.

Mullaperiyar dam reaches 134.60 feet

The water level in Mullaperiyar dam has reached 134.60 feet. 4294 cubic feet of water is flowing into the dam per second. Tamil Nadu is taking 1867 cubic feet of water.
