THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPI leadership extended support to former Varandarappilly local committee secretary T.N. Mukundan, who approached the court against land acquisition in Thrissur. State secretary Binoy Viswam clarified in the state council meeting on Wednesday that the party will stand with Mukundan in his legal battle.
Mukundan approached the court, saying that the land purchased by Lulu Group in Ayyanthole falls within the paddy field protection zone and that it should not be allowed to be filled. Chairman and managing director of LuLu Group, M A. Yusuff Ali, had openly blamed the party for delaying the construction of Lulu Mall in Thrissur.
After Yusuff Ali’s comments, Mukundan appeared before the media, saying it was he who complained against the illegal land acquisition in his personal capacity and asked not to drag the party into it.
Leaders from Thrissur raised the issue in the state council meeting held on Wednesday. The CPI leaders supported Mukundan's position by citing documents. With this, the party secretary clarified his position. The council meeting called to discuss the political activity reports to be presented at the party's state conference is also being held on Thursday.
