Former Sabarimala Melshanti N Krishnan Namboothiri passes away

ALAPPUZHA: Former Sabarimala Melshanti N. Krishnan Namboothiri (78) passed away on Saturday morning at 11 am due to age-related illness.

Krishnan Namboothiri, who was the Melshanti at Kottaram Bhagavathi Temple in Alappuzha, served as the Sabarimala Chief Priest in 1984–85. He returned to Kottaram Bhagavathi Temple and continued as the chief priest there. After serving the temple for over 35 years, he had been leading a retired life for the past 10 years. He also served as President of the Alappuzha Sub-committee of Yogakshema Sabha.

He is survived by his wife, Sulochana Devi, children Santosh Kumar, Shobha Devi, and Prabha Devi, and in-laws Geethakumari, Manu N. Potty, and Keshavan Potty. The funeral will be held on Sunday at Brahmanasamooham crematorium in Chathanad.
