THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: There is a possibility of widespread rain in the state today. Yellow alert has been issued in Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad. Isolated heavy rain is likely. There is a possibility of rain with thunder and wind. The reason for the intensification of the rain is the cyclonic circulation over south Tamil Nadu and the south Andaman Sea. Winds coming from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal are also responsible for the rain. There is also a possibility of black sea phenomenon along the Kanyakumari coast from this morning to night.
A yellow alert has been issued for two districts on Sunday as well. Isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain is defined as a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain is expected in 24 hours.
A cyclonic circulation is present over south Tamil Nadu and the south Andaman Sea. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has also said that the rain in Kerala from April 4 to 6 is the result of a combination of winds coming from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

• Immediately move inside a safe building after seeing the first sign of thunderstorms. Remaining in open areas increases the risk of being struck by thunderstorms.
• Keep windows and doors closed during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms. Do not stand near doors and windows. Stay inside the building and try to avoid touching walls or floors as much as possible.
• Disconnect household appliances from the power supply. Avoid being close to electrical appliances during thunderstorms.
• Avoid using telephones during thunderstorms. It is safe to use mobile phones.
• If the weather is cloudy, avoid playing outdoors and on terraces, including with children.
• Do not stand under trees during thunderstorms. Do not park vehicles under trees.
