
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Four lives were lost in two road accidents in the capital during the New Year celebrations yesterday. The accidents occurred on the Shankhumugham-Veli road and the Akkulam-Ulloor road. Both accidents were caused by overspeeding.
Abbas (20), son of Naushad and Ramla Beevi, resident of Poonthura and Shafat (26), son of Kabir and Dilara, resident of Poonthura, who were travelling in an Enfield bike, were caught in an accident near All Saints College on the Shankhumugham-Veli road. The incident took place at around 3 am on Thursday. The Bullet, which was coming from All Saints towards Veli, was hit by a car coming from the opposite direction. The youths who fell on the road due to the impact of the collision were taken to the Valiyathura Police Medical College Hospital, but could not be saved. The driver, who was trapped inside the car, was rescued by the fire force from Chackai after cutting open the car. The driver, along with two others, suffered injuries.
The bodies of the youths were buried at the Puthanpally cemetery in Poonthura after the postmortem.
In another accident on the Akkulam-Ulloor road, Muhammad Fawaz (23), son of Sharafuddin and Shamima of Azhikode, and Muhammad Faizi (24), son of Badusha and Seena Beevi of Azhikode, died. The accident occurred when they were returning from a New Year's celebration in the city. A speeding car hit the bike on which the two were travelling. Fawaz died on the spot, and Faizi died in the hospital. The police booked four people in the car who were found to be intoxicated at the time of the accident. Fawaz worked at a mobile shop at Karakulam Keltron Junction, and Faizi worked at a chicken shop in Azhikode.
